About German Association
The first own clubhouse was built in 1862 on the site of what is now the Goodwood Park Hotel. Among other things, Prince Heinrich of Prussia was entertained here in 1898 while he was passing through with the Asian squadron of the Imperial Navy. As the German colony in Singapore grew rapidly, a much larger building was soon erected, which was inaugurated on September 21, 1900 with a festive ball. It still stands today and forms the tower section of the Goodwood Park Hotel at 22 Scotts Road.
In early 1939 a second German club was founded in a building on Shelford Road (corner of Dunearn Road and Adam Road). Unfortunately, this club was also confiscated after just a few months at the beginning of World War II. The building was then destroyed by fire during the Japanese occupation.
