Not to be confused with the Spanish boleros, the Mexican boleros originated from eastern Cuba in the late 19th century.
Boleros grew out of the trova tradition of the Cuban style of music by traveling musicians who earned their living by singing and playing the guitar. Trova songs had a repertoire that was novel to its time—songs about love, emotion and nature, songs with satirical lyrics and lyrics that had a double meaning. Trova musicians traditionally worked in pairs and trios. In this performance, Claudia Montiel will be accompanied on stage by Mario Lopez on the guitar.
