Mexican Film Festival 2019

The Mexican cinema industry and Mexican filmmakers have been thriving in recent years, achieving hundreds of international awards and nominations around the world.

For example, Mexican filmmakers Guillermo del Toro, Alejandro González Iñárritu and Alfonso Cuarón have won five Best Director Oscars in the last six years.

The Mexican Film Festival in Singapore is a great opportunity for the local public to enjoy some of the best Mexican productions, and to get a glimpse and get acquainted with the language, the culture, society and the art scene of Mexico. The seven films selected for this edition cover a range of different genres, from comedy, drama, thriller to horror, and each of them has garnered numerous awards and nominations from international and Mexican academies, juries and critics. The Mexican Film Festival has something for everyone!

The Mexican Film Festival 2019 is jointly presented by The Embassy of Mexico in Singapore, The Projector and NUS Office of Alumni Relations.

Special guest. We are also delighted to announce that Mr Manuel Alcalá, the scriptwriter and co-producer of multi-awarded film Museum, will be the special guest of the film festival; he will introduce the movie and participate with the public in a post-show Q&A session on the 6th June at The Projector. The participation of Mr Alcalá is possible thanks to Turkish Airlines and The Capitol Kempinski Hotel, the official airline and official hotel of the Mexican Film Festival 2019.

Museum - Museo

Inspired by true events. MUSEUM tells the story of Juan Núñez and Benjamin Wilson, two students, who on Christmas Eve of 1985 steal more than 140 iconic pre-Hispanic pieces from the National Museum of Anthropology. The magnitude of the crime goes beyond their intentions and leads to an outcome as improbable as the theft itself.

Starring one of the most famous Mexican actors, Gael García Bernal, well known for “Y tu mamá también” (Alfonso Cuarón), “Bad Education” (Almodóvar), “Babel” (González Iñárritu) and most recently stars in Amazon Prime´s “Mozart in the Jungle”.

They are not wild and crazy anymore, or at least they think so. Now, thanks to an offer nobody can't refuse, they will try to recapture that old rock and roll magic and give themselves a second chance. After 30 years, a rock band rejoins when Bono, from U2, shows interest in buying one of their songs. The gathering brings up old fights between Eddie, the lead singer, and Santos, the guitar player.

A comedy about friendship, rock and roll craziness, second chances and dreams that come true, but thirty years later!

Starring Mexican superstar Damián Alcázar, the multi-awarded actor has a long and successful career in cinema, TV, theatre in Mexico, the US and Latin America, most recently appearing in Netflix´s “Narcos”, TNT series “El Dandy”, and well known as Lord Sopespian in “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”.
