Vivekanand Seva Sangh (VSS) is a proud host of the Indian Traditional Games Festival (ITGF) for the 10th consecutive year in Singapore.
ITGF aims to preserve, nurture and flourish traditional Indian games such as Kabaddi, Kho-kho, Lagori, Langdi, Gilli Danda and more.

Since its inception in 2010, Indian Traditional Games Festival has been very popular in the Indian and increasingly – other communities in Singapore. Over 2500 families with young and old, boys and girls have participated, played and won awards in ITGF in the course of the last eight years. ITGF has received a hearty response from schools and other large associations, making it a big success. We also promote Indian art forms through this event.
Indian Traditional Games Festival – Expression of Unity in Diversity
As proclaimed by my Lord Shri Krishna in Srimad Bhagavad Geeta,
“The secret of living a meaningful life is to be very active, and do our best without thinking of our own selfish motives or even the results. A self-realized person works for the good of all”.
With this divine inspiration and a firm belief in value for uniting the society, VSS has accomplished successful conduction of ninth edition of a unique Sports event in South East Asia – proudly in Singapore. ITGF was conceptualised in the year 2010 with a noble intention to create awareness about ancient Indian Games which can infuse valuable qualities of camaraderie that can drive channelisation of the collective positive energy of our society to drive the creation of meritorious and principled global citizens.
This year, ITGF was gloriously marked with proactive participation of 2500 individuals and presence of honourable guests – HE Shri. Javed ji Ashraf, Smt..Madam MP Cheryl Chan ji and a galaxy of revered and distinguished guests representing various segments of composite but, the unified social fabric of Singapore.
The gamut of 11 games this year ranged from ever-exciting Kabaddi to the most mischievous marbles, from the fun-filled Gilli-danda (bail and stick) to disciplined team game Kho-Kho. Langadi (one-leg hopping), Lattoo (top), Skipping rope, Pitthoo (also called Lagori), Sagar-gote (five stones), Lemon & Spoon and Sack jumping are some other very popular games of the day.
Professional and friendly matches were played for the team games Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Lagori and Langdi. Enthusiastic participants were eager to show their agility, energy and vitality in playing these team games. It was heartening to see parents playing their childhood games along with the younger generation and demonstrating their skills proudly. Many associations from the Indian community in Singapore joined this festival. Global Indian International School & Yuvabharathi International School along with local school children joined ITGF to partake in this great celebration.
We look forward to strengthening and brighten this flame of guidance (ITGF) every year to solidify the sense of achieving greater heights through collective efforts to our youth and children.
