Fitness in Singapore

Incorporating fitness into an individual’s life can have physical and mental benefits. Being physically active promotes health, can help prevent chronic diseases and most of all, makes you feel good AND look great! Exercise conditions the cardio vascular system, builds stronger bones and muscles which lead to fat reduction. When a person participates in physical activity, the brain produces chemicals like dopamine that has been proven to be associated with the reward pathways of the brain. This means that the brain is wired to make us feel ‘happy’ every time we move and sweat it out! Being able to take the time to focus on ones well-being, a person can obtain mental clarity, reduce stress, have more energy, and improve sleeping patterns.

Fitness can be a social opportunity to meet new people, and build new relationships. It provides the opportunity to get involved with the local community or charities. There are a variety of events such as themed races, marathons, triathlons, obstacle courses one can choose to participate in. All of which are one simple Google search away. These events bring people together, individuals who chose fitness as an iconic part of their lifestyle. With that being a common goal for those alike, it is easy to relate and meet people who a person chooses to surround themselves with. Running clubs are another opportunity to meet people, workout, and get motivation from peers.

It is important for a person to figure out what they hope to achieve from the work out, and what type of physical activity they enjoy to participate in. Not all individuals are alike nor the goals they each hope to achieve. An individual may find that they prefer to workout independently, or relishes working in a group environment. It all comes down to what kind of activities a person is willing to participate in, and what they will make time for in their schedule.
There are numerous fitness facilities and clubs in Singapore. If a person wants to participate in a more competitive atmosphere, lifting heavier weight, CrossFit is something they may want to try. There are also full service big box gyms onboard! People can get their high intensity interval training (HIIT) from various boutique studios. Bootcamps are another option for more variety of indoor or outdoor workouts in a group setting. Less impact workouts like Yoga, Barre, and Pilates can be found at mainstream gyms. However, there are boutique studios who offer and specialize in these type of classes for a more customized experience.
