Matt Wharf is a 12 year veteran of comedy.
His first stint in stand-up was from the mid-90s through to early 2000s. In Matt’s first ever standup show in 1995 he was first runner up in The Campus Comedy Competition at Latrobe University Melbourne.
From there Matt worked his way up to a popular act on both The Melbourne and Sydney comedy scenes, working alongside and sharing stages with the likes of Wil Anderson, Rove McManus, Peter Heliar, James O’Loughlan, and Lawrence Mooney culminating with his Melbourne Comedy Festival cult hits ‘The Millennium Bugs Me’ 1999 and ‘A Wharf over Troubled Water” 2000.
In 2001 Due to personal reasons Matt took a break from comedy, which turned into a longer break
While in Thailand in 2014 – his previous life as a comedian a distant memory - Matt met up with an old comedy friend who happened to be in Bangkok performing shows. Fascinated that there was
stand-up comedy in Thailand Matt went along to support his friend and was back doing stand-up one week later. After thirteen years the comeback was on.
Matt has performed in Australia, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Singapore.
Matt has now splits his time between Australia and South East Asia. Matt has been a regular visitor to Thailand having both hosted and headlined at The Comedy Club Bangkok, RAW Comedy, Khao
San Road Comedy club and Stagetime Comedy Club. Matt has also been a hit at both The Magners Comedy Festival Asia 2016 and The Bangkok Comedy Fringe 2017.
Matt has also opened for such names such as Tom Rhodes (Comedy Central), Pete Lee (Jimmy Fallon), Phil Kay (BBC) Craig Campbell (Canadian Comedy Legend), Ron Josol, Martin Mor (IRE) Greg Fleet (Aussie Comedy Legend), Ahmed Ahmed (Netflix & Comedy Central) , John Lynn (IRE) and Joe Rooney (Father Ted).
Matt is also one of the most respected comedy promoters in the Asian region. Not satisfied with only one standup comedy room In Bangkok running two nights per month Matt founded Stagetime Comedy Club in 2017, providing a weekly Saturday comedy show for comedy lovers based in Bangkok. The Bangkok comedy scene is now the most active and exciting in Asia with standup shows every night of the week across more than five great comedy venues.
