About NAFA Chinese Chamber Ensemble
The Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts’ (NAFA) Chinese Chamber Ensemble was first established in 2002. It currently has over 40 members comprising both diploma and degree students majoring in Chinese and Western instruments. As one of the most active performing groups at NAFA, the ensemble has been invited to perform at various community and charity events, as well as multiple festivals and ceremonies. The NAFA Chinese Chamber Ensemble have also performed internationally in China, Malaysia, UK, Germany, USA and Taiwan.
Led by Head of Chinese Instrumental Studies Sunny Wong, members of the orchestra have participated in performances as part of exchanges with conservatories like China Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Music Conservatory, Xi’an Music Conservatory, Tianjin Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts and Tainan University of the Arts.
Over the years, members of the NAFA Chinese Chamber Ensemble have also consistently received top prizes at the Singapore Chinese Music Competition, which organised by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra. They have also excelled in prestigious international competitions held in China, Hong Kong and USA.
