Shenton Way

Shenton Way was named after Sir Shenton Thomas, Governor of Singapore 1934-1946. It was built almost entirely on reclaimed land which was previously known as Telok Ayer Basin. Dubbed as Singapore Wall Street, it was officially inaugurated in the year 1951. The road is a one-way street that starts at the junction of Boon Tat Street, Raffles Quay and Commerce Street and ends at Keppel Road.

Tiong Bahru

Tiong Bahru is a housing estate located within the Bukit Merah Planning Area, in the Central Region of Singapore. Tiong Bahru was constructed in the 1920s by the Singapore Improvement Trust, the predecessor to the Housing Development Board and an entity of the British colonial authority providing mass public housing in Singapore and is the oldest housing estate in Singapore.

Keppel

Keppel Island is a small private island located in the precinct of HarbourFront in Bukit Merah, Singapore. Situated in northern part of Keppel Bay, between Singapore's main island and the island of Sentosa.

Keppel Island is connected to Singapore's main island by the 250 m long cable stayed Keppel Bay Bridge, which opened in 2008.

Mount Faber

Mount Faber, formerly Telok Blangah Hill, is a hill about 94 metres (308 ft.) in height, located in the town of Bukit Merah in the Central Region of Singapore.

Mount Faber is one of the higher hills in Singapore, slightly lower than Bukit Timah Hill (164m) and Bukit Gombak (133m). It is separated from the adjacent slightly lower Telok Blangah Hill by Henderson Road. It a famous tourist attraction.

Sentosa Island, known mononymously as Sentosa, is an island located off the southern coast of Singapore's main island. Telok Blangah is a subzone region and housing estate located in the area behind Keppel Harbour in Bukit Merah, Singapore. Teluk Blangah is the district between Pasir Panjang and Tanjong Pagar.

Teluk Blanga is known as sit lat mng in Hokkien, meaning "Singapore gate" or "north west gate".

High Street

In 1821, manual convict labourers constructed High Street, the first street built in Singapore. High Street was the place to be for shopping right until the 1970s.

North Bridge Road

North Bridge Road is one of the oldest roads in Singapore and was outlined in the Jackson Plan. North Bridge Road was constructed by GD Coleman between 1833 and 1835, and built by convict labour. The road was a route for trams, trolley buses and once the one-way street until Victoria Street became 2-way street on 11 April 1993. North Bridge Road was called the "Big Horseway" in the past.

Beach Road

Beach Road is a road located within the planning areas of Kallang, Rochor and the Downtown Core in Singapore. Beach Road it was run along Singapore's southern coast, before land reclamation took place in the Kallang Basin area.

Bugis

Bugis Street offers a mixture of new and old Singaporean culture. In the mid-1980s, Bugis Street underwent major urban redevelopment into a retail complex of modern shopping malls, restaurants and nightspots mixed with regulated back-alley roadside vendors.

The old Bugis Street is now a large avenue where buildings such as Bugis Junction shopping complex are located. The New Bugis Street is billed as “the largest street-shopping location in Singapore” by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board.

Little India

Little India is an ethnic district in Singapore. Little India began as a former settlement for Indian convicts in Singapore. It is located east of the Singapore River – across from Chinatown, located west of the river – and north of Kampong Glam. The word "Toa Payoh" is a Hokkien dialect which literally means "big swamp", because this area is actually a large swamp which was later transformed into a residential area.

Paya Lebar is a planning area located in the East Region , Singapore , bordering Hougang to the west, Sengkang to the northwest, Tampines to the east, Bedok to the south and Pasir Ris to the north.

In 1955, Paya Lebar was a Singapore’s first international airport , which became the area’s major landmark. Katong

Katong, also known as Tanjong Katong, is a residential neighbourhood in the eastern portion of the Central Region of Singapore, within Marine Parade planning area.

Although formerly located by the sea, the land was reclaimed all the way to East Coast Park to provide more land for housing in the late 1960s. Katong was the location of many villas and mansions of the wealthy elite in the late 19th to the mid-20th centuries. The area is traditionally associated with the Eurasian and Peranakan community.

Marine Parade is a planning area and residential estate located in the Central Region of Singapore. Tanjong Rhu

Tanjong Rhu  is a subzone within the planning area of Kallang, Singapore, as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). The perimeter of Tanjong Rhu is made up of Nicoll Highway in the north; Mountbatten Road and Fort Road in the east; East Coast Parkway (ECP) in the south; Marina Channel and Kallang Basin in the west.

In the late 1980s to early 1990s, Tanjong Rhu became an industrial port with shipyards. Unfortunately, the place began to accumulate industrial waste, thus causing the Singapore Government to transform the place into a high-scale residential area.

Distric 17, Far East:

Changi

Changi is a district to the east of Singapore. It is bordered by Pasir Ris and Tampines to the west and Changi Bay to the east. Changi, which is one of the two water buffers on the island of Singapore, is the largest district in the country by area.

Known as Tanjung Rusa in the 1600s, Changi was later renamed Tanjung Changi in the 1800s. Changi is predominantly a spacious area with very little buildings, with its narrow streets lined by angsana and palm trees. A perfect and idyllic place for picnics, Changi is often the preferred place for a weekend family picnic.

Loyang is a subzone region located in the town of Pasir Ris in the East Region of Singapore. The region consists of three subzones, Loyang West, Loyang East and Flora Drive.

The region is served with the exterior road of Loyang Avenue, which leads to Pasir Ris and Tampines and Changi City Point. Loyang is a small residential and industrial area. It is also known as Kampong Loyang.

Simei

Simei is a subzone located in the eastern part of Singapore, situated within the town of Tampines. The name Simei is pinyin for "Four Beauties" in Chinese. Formerly known as Tampines South, it was officially renamed to Simei in 1985.

Simei used to be a village by the sea with a nice seaview. However, due to land reclamation in the area, the sea is no longer visible from Simei. You can find all types of housing in Simei, from HDB flats to condominiums to landed property.

Tampines is a planning area and residential town in the geographical region of Tanah Merah located along the north-eastern coast of the East Region of Singapore. Singapore does not technically have any "Southern" districts, as the southern area of the island is considered the "Central" districts. However, we do have an area known as the Northeastern part of Singapore, where the largest town is Hougang with the population of 800,000+. This region is mainly made up of newly developed towns like Punggol and Sengkang; you’ll find more young newly-wed couples or young families in the areas.

Hougang is a planning area and mature residential town located in the North-East Region of Singapore. Punggol is a planning area and new town situated on the Tanjong Punggol peninsula in the North-East Region of Singapore. Ang Mo Kio, often abbreviated as AMK, is a planning area and residential town situated in the North-East of Singapore. Ang Mo Kio is the 3rd most populated planning area in the North-East Region and ranks 8th in terms of population in the country overall. The planning area is located at the south-western corner of the North-East Region, bordered by the planning areas of Yishun to the north, Sengkang to the north-east, Serangoon to the east, Bishan to the south and the Central Water Catchment to the west

Bishan

Bishan also known as either Bishan New Town or Bishan Town, is a planning area and matured residential town located at the northernmost portion of the Central Region of Singapore. Bishan borders three other planning areas - Ang Mo Kio to the north, Toa Payoh to the south and Serangoon to the east.

Bishan or Bi Shang Ting is derived from the Cantonese word for large burial ground. In the past, there was a burial ground in the area and it has since been excavated to make way for residential development.

Thomson

Thomson is a relatively narrow area stretching from Novena in the Central Region of Singapore up north till Sembawang. The area is mainly located within the central catchment area where some of Singapore's reservoirs are located, including MacRitchie Reservoir, Upper Peirce Reservoir and Lower Peirce Reservoir.

The area also contains one of the oldest roads in Singapore, which is also one of the longest and tends to be a vital link from the northern part of Singapore to the Central Area and the Downtown Core, as well as the rest of the island. The road is split into two lengths, Thomson Road, and Upper Thomson Road.

Seletar

Seletar is an area located in the north-east of Singapore. Its name can also refer to the Seletar Planning Area (as defined by the Urban Redevelopment Authority), situated in the North-East Region of Singapore. The place name was derived from the Malay subgroup who were indigenous to the area, the Orang Seletar. It shares boundaries with the planning areas of Sengkang to the south, Punggol to the east, Yishun and Simpang to the west, as well as the Straits of Johor to the north.

Yio Chu Kang

Yio Chu Kang is a sub-urban area in the northeast of Singapore, with proximity to the Ang Mo Kio, Lentor, Seletar and Sengkang areas. Deriving its name from the Yio Chu Kang Village, it is still known for lush greenery and low-density housing with high-rise public housing in its southern fringes.

A residential precinct rich with Singaporean history, it was a place full of gambier and pepper plantations.

The West Region is the largest (by size) area in Singapore and has a population of over 1 million living in the area, with Jurong West being the largest town. This region is mostly made up of industrial estates and warehouses, so if your company is in the heavy-duty industry, then your office is quite likely to be based in this area. The West is a location you might wish to consider if you don’t wish to invest too much of your time commuting each day.

Boon Lay

Boon Lay is a neighbourhood located in the town of Jurong West in the West Region of Singapore. Its borders very roughly correspond to the URA subzone of Boon Lay Place, situated within the Jurong West Planning Area.

The subzone was named after Chew Boon Lay, a prominent businessman in the late 19th century and early 20th century who owned the land where the precinct stands. Before the 1960s, a portion of Boon Lay was a swampy jungle. Subsequently, it was turned into Singapore’s first industrial estate with its first factory, the National Iron and Steel Mills.

Tuas

Tuas is a planning area located within the West Region of Singapore. It is bounded by the Western Water Catchment to its north, Pioneer to its east and the Straits of Johor to its west. Tuas also shares a maritime boundary with the Western Islands planning area to its east.

In 1998, the Tuas 2nd link was opened as an alternative route between Singapore and Malaysia. The opening of the Tuas 2nd link helped to ease the heavy traffic on the Causeway, Singapore’s first bridge to Malaysia.

Bukit Batok is a planning area and matured residential town located along the eastern boundary of the West Region of Singapore. Tengah

Sembawang

Sembawang  is an area located in the northernmost part of Singapore, on the coast of Johor Straits. It comprises part of Yishun and part of Seletar.

Yishun
