Alex and Mushi are ‘artists as anthropologists’. Using art systems to isolate different forms of verbal and nonverbal languages across multiple cultures to examine the unifying core forms of communication and connection.
In 2015 Alex and Mushi met on the streets. To this day it remains a chance meeting. From that unexpected crossing they are innovating a new genre, a new medium of collaborative practice. What does it take to build powerful relationships with people? Humans are always in context to others. And yet how deeply is that process of connecting understood? Alex and Mushi work directly with the dynamic tension core to all relationships. The desire to be seen and the terror of revealing ourselves.

ALEXANDMUSHI have exhibited together in the U.S., Asia, and Europe. They are the recipients of artist residencies in San Francisco, Taiwan, and Mexico. They have guest lectured in the U.S. and Asia, and are the Executive Director and Co-Director of Think Make Tank Artist Collective, an organization dedicated to building a community around collaboration, experimentation, and improvisation.
They have participated and worked with: MOCA Taipei, Bamboo Curtain Studio, Recology SF, Chinese Culture Centre SF, Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture SF, University of San Francisco, Zonamaco Art Fair, MACO Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Oaxaca, Centro Fotografico Alvarez Bravo Oaxaca, AIASF (American Institute of Architects), and AAA (American Anthropological Association).
They have five ongoing projects in their collaboration: Portable Studio, Chair Conversations, Still Conversations, Two Chairs, and The Dictionary. Each work is a seemingly playful exercise of connection and communication. Behind each of these images is the nakedness required by each individual attempting to know another person.
The goal is to better understand humanity. The rule is transparency. Being as transparent as possible is critical. To begin to know someone we have to know ourselves. The practice of collaboration between two artists is the work of knowing the ‘other’ as a road to knowing the ‘self’.

I travel extensively for work to study languages, art history and culture which informs my art practice.
I am interested in developing my creative expression by discovering new things to feed my imagination. I have studied a variety of art disciplines leading to specialising in photographic arts which I have worked in commercially as a music and ski photographer. I am currently lecturing Art and Design in China while concentrating on fine art photography.

I shoot a range of subject matter and styles depending on what suits my projects which are self directed. My image styles range from studio set ups to street photography. I use observational methods to portray what I find interesting about everyday life, in contrast to this documentary approach, I also use photography to visualise my imagination and contrive flamboyant imagery.
I am fascinated with photography’s ability to dive into a multitude of situations and give the viewer the illusion of reality thanks to the mediums connection to the physical world. I believe great photography is visionary, considered and planned across all working methods.
I see a direct relationship between paintings and photographs as with a deep understanding of technical photography there are no limits to what can be achieved which for me is truly magic. There are certain moments along the way which are not predictable and this balance of chance and control is what makes photography so exciting

As an artist, the sculpture has always been my primary focus.
Born in the UK in 1973, Gail studied Fine Art Sculpture at Manchester, graduation in 1994. In 1997 she moved to Hong Kong, having also lived in Dubai and Indonesia.
Despite drawing being an integral part of my creative process and thinking, sculpture has continually (consciously and subconsciously) pulled me back and demanded me to make sense of my ideas by working three-dimensionally.

Guillermo Monroy is a Mexican artist who has lived in Britain for over twenty years.
Drawing from his cultural background, Monroy works as a musician and sculptor re-fashioning found musical instruments into eloquent pieces that reference music, temporality and silence.

As a Mexican living in Britain for the past twenty years, I am able to draw on my cultural roots and new cultural stimuli to invigorate my working processes. I have continually exhibited throughout this time and my work has developed from a painter who sculpts to now predominately a sculptor who also paints. I find both practices inform the other, symbiotically creating the working rhythm that ignites the work.
Musical instruments, wood and metal are the main materials used, having an intrinsic natural beauty and strong connections to the earth. In common with painting, these materials can be manipulated through colour, thickness, texture and warmth, and additionally the surfaces can be caressed or violated through polishing or chiselling. I like to contrast the qualities of wood by combining it with other elements. The process of construction is vital to how the final form is perceived.

Prior to moving into the art world and since completing her MA at Kings College London and Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts Vanja has worked commercially as a Creative Director in design and advertising industries in London. She is now mainly focusing on her Art working in and exhibiting across a range of different media: photography, conceptual art, site-specific installation, sculpture, video art, textile design, print and VR.

Vanja’s work has been commissioned for a number of private, public, museum and corporate collections and published in books and magazines. Her photographic print has reached £10000 at a recent Bonham’s Auction.
She has featured wit her work in numerous international exhibitions, festivals and residencies across Europe, Asia and America. Only this year her work has been exhibited in Japan, USA, Mexico, Italy, the UK and she is delighted now to be showing for the first time in Singapore. Earlier this month Vanja’s work was exhibited in the NaWei Gallery at the Fullerton Hotel, as one of the finalists of the Art Gemini International Art Prize.
She is also currently exhibiting in London as part of the God Save the Queen exhibition alongside some of the most celebrated artists such as Terry O’Neil, Rankin, David Swanell and Alison Jackson.
Earlier this year her work Flowers for Algernon was selected for the Royal Academy of Arts 251st Summer Exhibition, she also exhibited as part of this years 58th Venice Biennale and as part of a multimedia video installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art Oaxaca MACO (Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Oaxaca).
