This year marks the 13th Archifest (Singapore Architectural Festival) which began in 2007 as an annual festival for the city to celebrate architecture and the built environment. Organised by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), it is a platform for people from all walks of life to discuss, debate and dream about possibilities surrounding architecture, our city and the built environment at large. This festival promotes the importance of sustainable architecture and urban design in creating a vibrant and delightful atmosphere. Architecture fosters a sense of community and a deeper sense of place by allowing us to shape common goals and visions in the making of a progressive Singapore. Our theme for Archifest 2019, Craft, expresses our ambition to reinforce this fundamental role of architecture.

In the lead up to the upcoming mASEANa Conference “Progressive Once More: Rejuvenating Mid-Century Modern Architecture in Southeast Asia” at the URA Centre from 31 Oct to 2 Nov 2019, the organizing committee and the Singapore Institute of Architects is pleased to present a design charette and outreach programme.

Case studies will be shared from selected heritage rehabilitation projects in Singapore and the UK.

Come and join the panel as they dissect issues of heritage and modernity in this conversation teaser – raising issues that will extend into deeper conversations in the mASEANa Conference at the end of October.

The mASEANa Conference is jointly coordinated by Docomomo Japan and the University of Tokyo, and supported by Docomomo International and ICOMOS International Scientific Committee for 20th Century.
